| こだわりの内装材−予算の都合上、ドイツ製の天然塗料を全面に使用できなかったので、部分的にかき渋や亜麻仁油を自分たちで塗布。トイレの壁には「エコカラット」、キッチンはケナフでできた「エコウオール」。珪藻土は壁面が多いので、部屋により色･仕上げ〔ワラ入り、はけ引等）にバリエーションを。１Ｆには桃月紙、しっくいも使用。 |
| DIY−Since we couldn't afford to use fancy German-made natural stains on all the wood surfaces, we applied persimmon tannin and linseed oil on certain areas by ourselves. We used EcoKarat (wall tiles made of shale) for toilet and EcoWall (wallpaper made of Kenaf) on kitchen walls. Varying colors and textures of diatomaceous earth plaster were chosen for different rooms. |

| ある夜の決断−低メンテ、高耐久性、低コストの三要素を鑑みれば、外壁材には当然石油化学製品が候補に上がるのだけれど･･･だからと言って、触りたくもない化学合成素材で我が郷土を覆い尽くしていって本当にいいのだろうか？中に住む人だけじゃなく、施工する人、近所の人、みんなが少しでも安らぎを覚えてくれるような素材を外壁にも使う責任を我々は負っていないだろうか･･･という疑問が高じ、余分に借金して、外壁にも珪藻土を使うことを突如決定。この夜二人が何を語ったかについては、いつか「俺のグロス論」というタイトルで、施主自ら発表してくださることを期待しましょう。 |
| One Night's Decision −Considering cost, durability, and easy-maintenance, petrochemical products would have been the obvious choice for the exterior walls. But, "Is it really ok to cover the surface of our homeland with a kind of material that we don't even care to touch?" So, we decided to take on an extra loan to use diatomaceous earth plasters on the exterior walls as well. Mr. Horiuchi was unusually talkative that night, passionately explaining his 'Cosmic Zero Sum Theory' to his wife. |

| 堀内邸外観−ということで、全外壁に珪藻土を使い、施主のルックスとは相反するさわやかなペンション風に仕上がりました。一番右の写真の屋根の上に見える水色の光は何かって？どなかたわかる方がいたら教えてください。「オルゴン」っていう説もありますけど… |
| External Views −Unfortunately, these pictures do not really convey the soft, warm texture of diatomaceous earth plasters, but we are extremely happy with the result. Don't ask us what the blue dots are over the roof at right, as we have no idea (possibly an orgone field??). |
